We went, got stuck, and came back.

I think the theme for this month should be rain. I have never seen so much rain in my whole life, which isn't saying much because I'm from Texas and it doesn't rain a whole bunch there. But my teammate, Sandy, is from Vancouver and she says that this rain in ridiculous. There hasn't been a day that goes by without it raining.

So this weekend Sandy and I decided to travel up to Hanoi for the weekend to see a group of friends that had come over from Texas. We had heard from several people that it had been raining in Hanoi but we had no idea to what extent. So when our trained stopped about 40 km or about 28 miles from Hanoi I figured that it would start again in a few hours. After being on the train just waiting for it to start moving for 12 hours we decided that there was no hope. From everyone that we talked to in Hanoi is seemed that the flooding was only getting worse. So Sandy and I got on a bus and headed back down to Vinh, and after a 6 hour bus ride we were back home. It was definitely an adventure but not one that I want to repeat. Keep me in your thought because I am going to try and travel back up to Hanoi by myself on Friday afternoon to see my friends before they leave on Saturday.

We are glad the two of you made it back home safely. Who would have thought you would need a life jacket to use when on the train.

Glad you're back safe too. Unfortunately heavy rains are a part of life in Central VN. Hang in there! If you haven't seen it yet, check out Kathryn Brightbill's youtube video of Hanoi (then again, you might be sick of anything to do with rain) Tell Sandy we said Hi! (this weekend Anne Edmunds will be staying with us and visiting Northwood)
