Then some of the Thai students came over and a few of my freinds that are in their second year. I always enjoy being around them because they have the same sense of humor as me. Then a whole bunch of students came over with a huge cake that said, "Happy Dirthday Miss Megan." I loved it! But the thing you must know about Vietnamese cakes is that they are beautiful but they are not the best tasting things in the world. I guess I am used to the American style of baking where we add tons of sugar to everything.
Then after my students left to go home I got to open all of the present that they brought me. With student gifts you never know exactly what you are going to get. For teacher's day I got a "beautiful" statue of a glow in the dark mermaid swimming with dolphins covered in neon glitter. I would have to say that one tops my list! I think some of the best things that I got were all the flowers and of course the two toned purple teady bear scarf. But seriously I don't think I could have asked for a much better birthday. I have some of the sweetest students anyone could ask for and really wonderful new freinds!
But to finish my post I want to give some credit to my teammate Sandy. I think that she has finally started to understand me and my Texan ways. For my birhtday she gave me some torillas, sour cream, cheese and home made SALSA! I can't tell you how much I miss Mexican food! So this whole week I have been eating salsa on everything. It is is so wonderful. Thank you to all of you who sent me sweet birthday wishes and made my birthday truelly special!

You are so loved...over here and there!!! look at all those presents...and such a beautiful cake! Miss you girl!
I know you're really immersed in the culture because you're getting VN'ese presents! Best one I ever got was an ape made out of a coconut shell. The funniest thing is that it was holding a huge marijuana joint (ahem - at least, that's what I'm told it was). I always wanted to get a collection of hilarious, tacky gifts we've received, but never did. (and it is great to see how happy you are there and how much you're connecting with your students - that will speak more loudly than anything about why you're there!)
