Can you beleive that I have already been here for 6 months?
I finished my last class of the semester yesterday and I will be giving my final exams on Monday and Tuesday. This may sound kind of dumb but in the middle of teaching my last class it just kind of hit me that I am a legit teacher. For the past four years I studied at Texas A&M University (WHOOP!) to become a middle school science teacher. And know I am here in Vietnam teaching English to university students. If you would have told me I would be teaching English in Vietnam four years ago I really don't know if I would have beleived you. I mean it was kind of leap for me to go from middle school science to university English. Let's be serious English was alway the subject that I did the worst in all the way through school, but here I am and loving it. I have learned so much this semester. Who would have thought that I would be using the phonetic alphabet to explain to my students what sounds are in a word? I didn't even know what the phonetic alphabet was before I came here! It has been a lot of fun teaching speaking this semester. My students are so much fun
For example I gave my students a few topics that needed to prepare to talk about for the final exam. Some of the topics were family, their hometown, their hobbies, the weather, and so on. One topic I gave them was love. It is so great because ever time I talk about this topic they bust out into laughter. So in a way it is kind of like I am teaching middle school students, they are so cute. But one of the girls in one of my classes was like, "Miss Megan I don't understand what love is can you explain it to me?" and then she started laughing. You know you have to watch out for ones like that, they are so tricky. I think she was really trying to indirectly (a new form of communication I have learned) ask me about my love life. But I smartly turned the question right back around to her. To which she cleverly replied, "Love is hard to define." The whole class was highly entertained!
Teaching Vietnamese students is so much fun. I am going to miss my classes while I am gone the next couple of weeks over Tet Holiday. But I am excited because I will be teaching the same students next semester. It is good because I will be able to continue to build relationships on the foundations I have already laid down this semester. Hopefully I will form some meaningfull freindships!

Wow, genuine teacher. And wow, 6 months. You're 1/4th of the way done, if the plan goes according to how it looks now. Enjoy the holiday!
